What is Video Display Adapter? Explain Its different types

A Video Display Adapter must be attached to the computer to display graphics.it is also called video graphics card.It is circuit board that determines the following things:

• Screen resolution

• The numbers of bits in computer display adapter used to store color information about each pixel called bit depth.

• The total number of color that can be used to display images

• Speed in which the video and images appear on the display screen.

Types of Video Display Adapter:

1. VGA (Video Graphics Array)
2. SVGA (Super Video Graphics Array)
3. XGA (Extended Graphics Array)

VGA (Video Graphics Array):

VGA stands for Video Graphics Array.It support 16 to 256 colors depending on screen resolution.It support 16 colors at 320x200 pixels.It support 256 colors at 640x840 pixels.It is called 4-bit color

SVGA (Super Video Graphics Array):

SVGA stands for Super Video Graphics Array.It support 256 colors at higher resolution then VGA.It has two graphics modes.These are 800x600 pixels and 1024x768 pixels.It is called 8-bit color. SVGA is the most common standard used today.It is used Primarily with 15 inches monitors.

XGA(Extended Graphics Array):

XGA stands for Extended Graphics Array.It support up to 16.7 million colors at a resolution of 1024x768 pixels.It is called 24-bit color or true color.It is used with 17 and 19 Inch monitors.

Types Of Display Screen:

There Are Two Types Display Screen:

1. CRT (Cathode Ray Tube)
2. Flat Panel Display

CRT (Cathode Ray Tube):

CRT monitors is an older type of display screen.It look like a television.It can display text,graphics and Videos.

Working of CRT monitors:

It Used a Cathode Ray Tube(CRT) to display an image on the screen.CRT consist of one or more guns that fire a beam of electrons inside the screen.The screen is coated with tiny phosphor dots from inside.The beam of electrons repeatedly falls front on the surface of screen.Every beam of color fall takes only a fraction of a second.

CRT monitors consist of three guns.These guns generate red,green,blue(RGB) colors.

Flat Panel Display:

Flat Panel display take less space and are lightweight.They also consume less power than CRT's but are more expensive than CRT's.Flat Panel display is made up of two plates of glass.These plates are a substance in them.The Substance is activated in many ways.
