Pointing Devices:

An input device used to control a pointer on the screen is called pointing devices.A pointer is a small symbol that appear on the screen in graphical user interface.A pointing device can be used to select text,graphics and other object such as button's and commands.Some Important Pointing devices are as follows:

• Trackball
• Touch Screen/Touch Pad

Mouse:

Mouse is the most widely used pointing device.It is a small and light weight input device.It is used to input instructions with a pointer on the screen.Mouse is moved on a flat surface to control the movement of the cursor or the pointer.It is attached to the computer by a cable or wireless connections.Mouse is very easy to use.It is mostly used in graphics Applications.

Trackball:

A trackball can be used as an alternative to mouse.This device Has button similar to those on mouse.It has a large rotating ball on the top.The body of the trackball is not moved from the place.The ball is rolled with hand fingers.The position of the pointer on the screen is controlled by rotating the ball.An Advantages of the trackball is that it takes less space move than mouse.Trackball is often included is laptop computers.

Touch Screen/Touch Pad:

Touch Screen is a touch-sensitive display devices.The user can touch different parts of the screen with finger or stylus to input data and issue commands.Many touch screens today are multi-touch and can recognize input from more than one finger at one time.

Light Pen:

A light Pen is a hand held pointing device used to move cursor on the screen.It is look like a pen.It is connect by a wire to the computer.The Pen sends information to the computer when user touches the pen on specific areas of a specially designed screens.Light pen is usually used by engineers and graphic designers etc.

Pen Based System:

Pen-Based system is used to enter hand writing and marks in computer using pen-like device.This input device is called stylus.The user writes words and symbols on the screen.This system uses handwriting recognition software.
