Computer Network:

A computer network consist of two or more computers that are connected together to share information and resources.The resources may include printers,hard disks or programs etc.The computers in the network are connected together through communication media.The communication media can be a physical cable or a wireless connection.The computers in the network can be in the same room,building or at different places.

Uses/Benefits of Computer Networks:

Some Important uses and benefits of computer network are as follows:

• Network are used to access shared data.
• Network are used to share different devices such as printers and hard disk etc.
• Network are used to send email with attachment of files etc.

Types Of Computer Network:

There Are two types of computer network:

1. Work group Computing 
2. Group Ware

Work-Group Computing:

Work Group is group of persons working together on a particular task by sharing information through a computer network.The process of sharing information by using a computer network is called work group computing.It is also called collaborative computing.

The work group members may be at different places in the world.They can share thier ideas and experiences using computer network.Different types of files,pictures,sounds videos and graphics can be exchanged among  the member of work group.

Group-Ware:

Group Ware is a software used for work group computing.It is used in a computer network.The researchers can use it to share information about different projects online.The individuals can use it to collaborate with their colleagues etc.

Method To Share Information:

There Are two methods to share information in workgroup:

1. Server
2. Client

Server:

A server is computer that provides services to the computers and other devices connected to a network.Server computer is more powerful than other computers in network.

Different Services Provided by the server are as follows:

• Control access to the hardware,software and data.
• Centralized storage for software,data and information.
• Processing data.
• Sharing software
• Managing network traffic.

Client:

A client is a computer in the network that is connected with a server to access different resources.The client computer sends request to the server for resources.The server computer provides the requested resource to the client computer.The client computer is less powerful than server computer.
